Hello, hello, anglers!
We promised we would bring back the PCM Derby and we are! Mark your calendars for the 2018 May long weekend, the 19th and 20th!
All the money raised through this year’s derby will be split between The Steelhead Society of BC and Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. Both organizations are committed to enhancement and conservation of BC’s fish resources through research, conservation and education programs.
What’s happening? Let’s see…the new and improved Whispering Pines Ranch is our host once again. They are providing all the camping for the derby participants and their families. Contact them to reserve your space in advance.
We’ve got donations coming in already. I’ve said it before, but we have the BEST sponsors!
- Chilliwack Dart and Tackle
- Flies by Tex
- Blackwater Guiding
- Oscars Fly and Tackle
- Whispering Pines Ranch
- Steve Chantler
- Charlie Clark

- Seven Half Diamond Ranch
- Brodie Cooper
It’s early days and I can’t wait to tell you about all the great stuff we have in the works! Stay tuned, people. Spring is coming!
Nine days till the derby and fishing is still a little slow. I am not worried at all because that means the bite will be on for opening day of the 2016 Peter Cameron Morrison Memorial Derby!
Here are the lakes for this year’s derby:
Hook Lake, Kump Lake, Thalia Lake, Goose Lake, Rickey Lake, Clifford Lake, and Lodwick Lake.
All of these lakes are off the Pike Mountain Forest Service Road with the exception of Hook Lake. Most have good boat launch access with the exception of Hook which can be dicey unless you are able to carry your small launch to the water.
The winning fish caught by Ken Woodward last year did come out of Hook Lake though, which might change your mind. If you are looking for maps of the area, they can be found through the Backroads Mapbooks app or books.
This PDF map shows an overview of the general Pike Mountain area lakes:

I had a wonderful conversation today with Mike Gass the manager of sportfishing development at the Freshwater Fisheries Society.
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC) is a private non-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement and conservation of BC’s freshwater fish resources for the benefit of the public. The Society delivers the provincial fish stocking program to support sport fishing, offers a range of conservation services to protect wild fish, and promotes the importance of sport fishing and fish conservation to the public.
Each year, the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC) stocks about 800 lakes and streams throughout BC. The Society also conducts research and development activities as well as promotion and marketing initiatives aimed at improving sport fishing in the province.
The funds raised at last year’s derby went right into the Learn to Ice Fish programs that were delivered to over 600 youth and their families. This is what the derby is all about, happy, healthy lifestyle that gets kids outside and involved in nature and the environment.
Read about the contribution to Freshwater Fisheries:
FFSBC Thank You Letter to PCM Memorial Derby
Your participation last year sent kids to camp where they could l
earn to manage their diabetes as well as brought the youth of BC to the sport of fishing we all love. By teaching kids to learn to appreciate nature we ensure that our province and its waters stay clean and beautiful for future generations. From all of the organizers here at the PCM Memorial Derby, the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, and the Canadian Diabetes Association – THANK YOU!
Lets make this year even better! Call Jamie to register your spot! 604-807-3005
The bigger the team the more prizes, raffle, and auction items there are up for grabs! Nick and Savas from Trout Waters were there for us last year and they’re back again this year. Although, they’re claiming they are going to be too busy to attend. Ummmm…guys? That’s what employees are for. Make them work so you can come fishin’!
We are incredibly thankful for your continues support and I know the derby participants will be too.
Who can say they have hand tied flies from Rob Texmo? Well if you don’t then you need to come to the derby and enter to win a chance at a box full of them. I know several anglers that love his flies and swear they’re magic.
The list of items up for grabs this year is truly incredible and would not be possible without our sponsors. This is an event you are not going to want to miss.
Where will you be this May long weekend?
A big welcome to Sage Rods as they join the Sponsorship team again this year. Sage will be donating a Circa Rod to this year’s derby.
To anyone who knows, the CIRCA is a perfect addition to your rod collection, allowing you to approach a river with stealthy, short-range accuracy. Its hypnotically smooth slower tempo combined with crisp and precise loading and unloading of each cast results in unmatched accuracy and delicate presentations. Will you be the lucky winner?
Well, anglers and friends, it’s finally happened. We’ve been working towards this for quite a while now and it’s time to unveil the new PCM Memorial Derby Logo!
With help from Carolyn at Sprokit Media, we have come up with a great new design.
We hope you like it as much as we do. All participants in the derby will be receiving a PCM Derby t-shirt with the new logo on it. Remember we are only allowing sixty entries this year and space is filling up fast. So call and get your spot reserved for the May Long Weekend!
There are still camping spaces available at Whispering Pines, but like the entries, they are going fast. Call Jamie at 604-807-3005 for more information.
To everyone that has already entered, can you send us an e-mail with your t-shirt size? We are trying to get an accurate order in this year. We’re offering women’s shirts this year as well so, ladies, that goes for you too.
Tight Lines, everyone! This year is going to be amazing!
We are so excited to officially announce that the talented artist, Charlie Clark, has agreed to do some ORIGINAL artwork for the PCM Memorial Derby!
Charlie is incredibly skilled at painting wildlife. If you haven’t seen his work, definitely check out his website.
The piece he is doing for the PCM Derby will be the first in a series he is willing to do specifically for the derby every year. Each year we will be auctioning off a new painting to raise money for our deserving charities. This is your chance to own a one of a kind piece of art from an up and coming artist! Attend every year and start your collection.
Thank you, Charlie! Welcome to the PCM Derby family!
