Entries are Now Open!

The entry forms are available HERE

Please note! This year all derby fees MUST be paid in advance. We accept personal cheque by mail or can accept Visa/MasterCard over the phone. If you can track us down in person we will also be happy to take cash.

We’re looking forward to another successful weekend of fishing, fun, and fundraising. This year all the proceeds will be going to the Steelhead Society of BC and The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.

As I look out my window into the whiteout blizzard dumping snow all through the Thompson Nicola region…I CANNOT WAIT for Spring to get here!

Start tying your flies now, we’re officially on derby day countdown.

Who Loves Quality Gear

IMG_4162 (2)I know I do. Our home is littered with Islander Reels of all shapes and sizes and they never let us down. I wish I was eligible for the derby cause Islander has joined the sponsorship team again! For trout anglers in search of the perfect fly reel, the Islander has it. Precision machined, buffed to a mirror finish and built to exacting standards—all in Canada.

Texs Flies

If you’re fly fishing…you need flies. Rob Texmo has once again offered up a box of his premium flies. Anyone who has been to previous derbies knows that these are a hot commodity and greatly admired.

Thanks to Islander Reels and Flies by Tex for helping to make the May Long weekend a success!

We’re Back!

Hello, hello, anglers!

We promised we would bring back the PCM Derby and we are! Mark your calendars for the 2018 May long weekend, the 19th and 20th!

All the money raised through this year’s derby will be split between The Steelhead Society of BC and Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. Both organizations are committed to enhancement and conservation of BC’s fish resources through research, conservation and education programs.

What’s happening? Let’s see…the new and improved Whispering Pines Ranch is our host once again. They are providing all the camping for the derby participants and their families.  Contact them to reserve your space in advance.

We’ve got donations coming in already. I’ve said it before, but we have the BEST sponsors!

LAKE UPDATE & Weekend Itinerary

LAKE UPDATE

It will come as no surprise to you anglers that the lake conditions in and around Whispering Pines have changed. In the effort to give you all the best possible Derby weekend we can, we have revised the lakes for this year’s derby. The lakes are as follows:

Hook Lake – Wild strain/Pennask Triploid – Launch: borderline cartopper only. Derby alum will remember this launch can be hairy but the lake produced last year’s winning fish.

Kump Lake – Pennask Triploid – Launch: cartopper

Goose Lake – Pennask Triploid – Launch: good boat access

Thalia Lake – Pennask Triploid – Launch: good boat access

Rickey Lake* – Pennask Triploid – Launch: good boat access

Stoney Lake* – Pennask Triploid – Launch: cartopper

Lodwick Lake – Pennask Triploid – Launch: cartopper

Laird Lake – Brook Trout/Blackwater Diploid – Launch: good boat access

Robertson Lake – Pennask Triploid – Launch: good boat access

*Rickey and Stoney Lakes are located in the Pike Mountain area but are not marked on the map provided.

2016 Official Derby Lakes

Nine days till the derby and fishing is still a little slow. I am not worried at all because that means the bite will be on for opening day of the 2016 Peter Cameron Morrison Memorial Derby!

Here are the lakes for this year’s derby:

Hook Lake, Kump Lake, Thalia Lake, Goose Lake, Rickey Lake, Clifford Lake, and Lodwick Lake.

All of these lakes are off the Pike Mountain Forest Service Road with the exception of Hook Lake. Most have good boat launch access with the exception of Hook which can be dicey unless you are able to carry your small launch to the water.

The winning fish caught by Ken Woodward last year did come out of Hook Lake though, which might change your mind. If you are looking for maps of the area, they can be found through the Backroads Mapbooks app or books.

This PDF map shows an overview of the general Pike Mountain area lakes:
